Brass Butterfield sundial signed "L'ing. Chevallier opticien du roi vis à vis le marché aux fleurs, N°1 Paris". The engraved octagonal plate, triangular folding gnomon with bird-shaped index, compass, the back engraved with the names and latitudes of ten European cities. Mid 18th century, circa 1740. In its original case. Oxidation, gnomon slightly bent.
