Our copy conforms to the copy in the Erfurt University Library (GBV PPN 568163192). - Trutfetter (c. 1460-1519, also Jodocus von Eisenach or Doctor Eisenach) was a Catholic theologian, rhetorician, philosopher, logician, co-founder of early Erfurt humanism and influential teacher of Luther, whose opponent he became when the latter began his reformatory work. - "After studying theology and philosophy in Erfurt and earning a doctorate in theology, he later became a teacher of these disciplines at this university (and at Wittenberg between 1506-1510) and also had Luther as a pupil. His contemporaries regarded him as a man of great erudition ..., as an excellent orator and especially as an astute dialectician. In scholastic philosophy he was a pupil and eager imitator of Joh. Buridanus. As a teacher he seems to have made himself popular through his lectures, ... even Luther, who ... had him as a special teacher along with Joh. Gryphius, thought highly of him and 'held him in great esteem'." (ADB 14 (1881), p. 111f.) - Trutfetter, who, like Bartholomäus Arnoldi, was concerned with the fundamental questions of Wilhelm von Ockham, had worked for a new way of thinking compared to the scholasticism of the Middle Ages at the Quodlibet Disputation of 1497 at the University of Erfurt. From the urge to grasp the world with human reason, he co-founded early Erfurt humanism, which he was open to as a late scholastic. His former pupil Martin Luther took up this approach and formed it into a new movement that Trutfetter rejected. - Trutfetter's main works include the "Sum(m)ule totius logice" (1501), a textbook on logic, as well as a textbook on natural philosophy, the "Summa in totam physicen" (1514). - Attached: Ders.
