London 1908 Olympics Great Britain Team Cap Small collection of items belonging to English long-distance runner William Coales (1886-1960) who won a gold medal in the men's 3-mile team race at the London 1908 Olympics. The collection is highlighted by Coales’ cloth competitor’s cap issued to members of the Great Britain national team, made by George Kenning & Sons of London, with the padded crown bearing an embroidered Union Jack flag. Also included with the cap is a 1911 dinner program, two concert programs from 1912 and 1914, a ‘Souvenir of the Olympic Games, London 1908’ brochure published by OXO, and two vintage postcards, all of which contain images of Coales during his competitive running years.
