Desirable winner's medal awarded to a member of the Norwegian women's handball team at the Sydney 2000 Summer Olympics. Bronze, 70 mm, 166 gm, by Wojciech Pietranik and Brian Thompson; manufactured by the Royal Australian Mint. The front depicts a 'Seated Victory' with the Colosseum in the background; the reverse portrays the Olympic rings over the iconic Sydney Opera House, with the Sydney Olympic torch at right, inscribed in the upper and lower rim, "Handball, Women." Complete with the original blue ribbon embroidered in silver with the legend “Sydney 2000.” Accompanied by its associated participant pin from the Sydney 2000 Summer Olympics, housed in its white vinyl Bertoni pouch. The Sydney 2000 Summer Olympiad has been recognized as one of the finest ever hosted, earning universal acclaim from the public and media. The women's handball competition took place at The Dome (Sydney Olympic Park), and saw Denmark win gold, Hungary take silver, and Norway finish third. Norwegian standout Kjersti Grini led the entire tournament in scoring, with 61 goals on 96 shots.
