Martha Washington: Lady Washington's Reception Oversized Engraving by A. H. Ritchie/D. Huntington Impressively large circa 1867 oversized engraving, 36 x 24.5, depicting "Lady Washington's Reception"—an idealized scene portraying an evening reception with dignitaries to honor Martha Washington set in Philadelphia in May of 1789, about a month after George Washington’s presidential inauguration. This engraving, published by Emil Seitz of New York, was produced by Alexander Hay Ritchie from the original 1861 painting by Daniel Huntington, which then resided in the collection of A. T. Stewart. Among the dignitaries depicted in the scene are George Washington, John Adams, Abigail Adams, John Jay, Thomas Jefferson, Robert Morris, John Hancock, and many more. Magnificently cloth-matted and framed to an overall size of 50 x 40. In fine condition, with fading to the legend in the lower border.
