Andrew Jackson Document Signed as President Partly-printed vellum DS as president, one page, 15.25 x 9.75, April 2, 1829. President Jackson grants James B. Johnson of Montgomery County, Ohio, a tract of land at "Crawfordsville, Indiana, containing Eighty Acres." Signed at the conclusion by President Andrew Jackson, and countersigned by Commissioner of the General Land Office George Graham. The white paper seal affixed at the lower left remains intact. In very good to fine condition, with overall rippling, and minor some loss along the folds. James B. Johnson (1796-1849), a South Carolina native, was a Quaker who married Rhonda O’Neall in Ohio and later moved the family to Indiana. The town of Crawfordsville was laid out in 1823 and incorporated in 1834. In addition to farming, Johnson was employed in commerce, likely a storekeeper.
