Werner VON PIGAE (1888-1959), Skizze und Farbstudie der Berliner Waldbühne, Berlin, 1946 u. 1950 Technique: Pencil and mixed media on paper, Signature: signed 'Werner von Pigage, 1950' on the lower right of the color study, with Pigage's handwritten comments including 'Studie für ein Ölgemälde für Herrn Joachim Krüger', dated 1946 on the sketch, with further comments, Dimensions: 28.5 x 33 cm (trimmed) and 42.5 x 51.5 cm, Condition: with traces of age and wear, marginal tears, Literature: 'Werner v. Pigage - Ein Malerleben in Deutschland 1888-1954', catalog Hubert Vogler Collection - Claus Reisinger, Worms 2014, p. 238 &260, SVR-265 & 294, Comment: During his time in East Berlin (probably around 1946), Pigage was commissioned by Hans Joachim Krüger, through his acquaintance Mr. Ludwig Suthaus, to produce an oil painting of the Waldbühne. Offered here is a sketch, as well as a later colored study of the Waldbühne.
