[RUSSIA] Special geometric plan of the Bogoslovsky and Petropavlovsky copper mining and smelting plants, Perm general government, Verkhotour district, owned by the Pokhodiachine industrialists. Traced March 9, 1795. Monumental handwritten map on paper, ink and watercolor, in two sheets consisting of several sections mounted on canvas. Our copy is a copy dated November 1869, marked "copie de copie", signed Yakov Aprelev and others, of an original map drawn in 1795. It depicts the land and a copper-mining plant located along the banks of the Sosva River in the eastern foothills of the Urals. It features watercourses and paths, small lakes, marshy areas and a plan of the factory next to a reservoir. The relief is marked by drop shadows. It includes a "scale for English plan". Some handwritten annotations on the back and stamp of Semion LEPECHKINE & Frère. Each sheet approx. 400 x 500 cm. (Corned edges, some parts detached and torn at the folds due to their large size). In the 18th century, the Pokhodiachine family were known as wealthy blacksmiths who owned the Touria copper mines. In 1791, the family's businesses came under the control of the Bank of Assignats.

Artist info: German painter and draughtsman. Painter and draughtsman (1873 Munich - 1937 Munich), descended from a Munich family of painters, son of the painter Emil Franz Adam, grandson of the animal painter Benno Adam, initially a pupil of his father, 1887 pupil of Nicolas Gysis, 1888 at the Kunstgewerbeschule München under Sigmund Strähuber and Ludwig von Langenmantel, 1889-92 pupil at Heinrich Knirr's public school, 1892-94 studied under Hermann Baisch at the Karlsruhe Academy, then further training as a horse painter by his father Emil Adam, created numerous works for the European high aristocracy, 1915-18 as a war painter at the headquarters of the German Emperor Wilhelm II., worked in the USA between 1928 and 1931, later appointed professor, member of the Reichsverband bildender Künstler Deutschlands, the Münchner Künstlergenossenschaft, the Münchner Künstlerunterstützungsverein and the Hungarian artists' club Fészek, received numerous honours such as the Prince Regent Luitpold Medal in Silver, the Knight's Cross of the Order of Franz Josef and the Iron Cross 2nd Class, worked in Munich, Budapest and Hungary.
