Frank Moss Bennett, British 1874-1952- Paycocke's House, Coggeshall, Essex; oil on canvas board, signed with initials, dated, and inscribed 'FMB 26 'Paycockes' (lower right), 24.4 x 31.9 cm. Provenance: Private Collection, UK. Note: In the present work, Bennett has depicted the exterior of Paycocke's House, a striking 16th-century half-timbered building in the town of Coggeshall, Essex. This Tudor setting is typical of the artist, although the present work omits the figures in historical costumes which are typical of Bennett's compositions, instead depicting a mysterious figure in contemporary dress standing at the doorway of the house.
