Richard Principal Leitch, British 1826/27-1882- An expansive landscape with a figure and a herd of cows by a windmill; watercolour heightened with touches of white on paper, signed and dated 'R.P.Leitch 1876[?]' (lower left), 29.5 x 48.2 cm. Provenance: Private Collection, UK. Note: Leitch was the son of William Leighton Leitch (1804-1883), who served as Drawing Master to Queen Victoria (1819-1901) and her daughters for nearly twenty years. Richard was also a successful watercolourist, covering the royal tour of Birmingham of 1858 for the 'Illustrated London News', whilst also producing a number of striking views of European landscapes, from German mountains to Italian lakes.
