(mounted/unframed). ARR. Provenance: Private Collection, UK. Note: The present work is typical of Mary Stormont's tranquil rural landscapes, defined by their empty streets and muted colour palette. Stormont lived in Rye with her husband, fellow artist Howard Gull Stormont (1859-1935), and created the Rye Art Gallery Trust in 1957. She bequeathed her house, the Ypres Studio, to the Trust in 1962, and a large number of her works are still held in the gallery's collection.
