George Arthur Fripp, RWS, British 1813-1896- On Hampstead Heath; watercolour heightened with white on paper, signed, dated, and inscribed 'On Hampstead heath / G.A Fripp May 1841' (lower left), 21.4 x 30 cm. Provenance: Property from a deceased estate, UK. Note: Fripp was part of a family of artists, including his grandfather Nicholas Pocock (1740-1821), his brother Alfred Downing Fripp (1822-1895), and his nephew Henry Charles Innes Fripp (1867-1963). He studied under James Baker Pyne (1800-1870), and accompanied William James Müller (1812-1845) on a sketching tour of Europe in 1834. Fripp produced a number of landscape views from across Europe and the UK, often returning to the setting of Hampstead Heath, as in the present work.
