After Francesco Beda, Austro-Hungarian 1840-1900- Admiring the portrait; oil on canvas, signed 'A. Monti' (lower right), 60 x 46 cm. Provenance: Property from a European Private Collection. Note: The present work is a copy, with minor variations, after Beda's original, which was sold at Sotheby's, London, on 15 March 1989 (lot 28) for £16,500. The composition is typical of Beda's playful genre scenes depicting figures in historical costume, and clearly heavily influenced by Beda's training under Karl von Blaas (1815-1894).
