Note: The present painting is typical of Stammel's work, with the artist completing multiple, almost identical versions of this same composition on various occasions. This scene, depicting two figures who appear to be being awoken from a night of revelry by the rays of the morning sun, has allowed the artist to show off his technical ability, finely rendering the assortment of glasses, pipes, and silverware which glimmer in the sunlight, having evidently been strewn about the room the previous evening.
