Circle of Paul Seignac, French 1826-1904- An interior with a lady standing at her bureau, reading a letter; oil on board, bears hand-written label inscribed 'FOR: / STEPHEN MORETON- / PRICHARD' attached to the reverse of the frame, 33.6 x 26.3 cm. Provenance: Private Collection, UK. Note: The present work evokes the approach of Seignac, who was a pupil of Edouard Picot (1786-1868), and who specialised in quiet interior scenes such as this work. Indeed, a similar composition by Seignac sold at Bonhams, Knightsbridge, on 13 September 2011 (lot 266).

Balthasar Paul Ommeganck (1755 Antwerp - 1826 ibid.) Circumference Pasture landscape with a resting herd by an old tree The lively depiction of animals in an atmospheric landscape shows the obvious influence of Ommeganck, who revived animal and landscape painting in Belgium and the Netherlands over 100 years after Paulus Potter (1635 - 1654) and gave it new impetus. Ommeganck, who specialized in depictions of grazing animals, was elected the last dean of the Guild of St. Luke (dissolved in 1794) in 1789 and became a professor at the Academy in Antwerp in 1796. In 1799, an Ommeganck painting won first prize for landscapes in Paris. His students included Eugène Joseph Verboeckhoven. Oil/wood panel. 28 cm x 38.2 cm. Probably original frame.
