Description
Attributed to Leopold Brunner the Younger, Austrian 1822-1869- A newborn calf; oil on cradled panel, inscribed 'Leop Brunner' to the reverse of the frame, inscribed indistinctly to the cradle bars, 62.1 x 78.7 cm. Provenance: Property from a European Private Collection. Note: The present scene, depicting cattle in an Alpine landscape, is typical of works by Leopold Brunner the Younger, not to be confused with his father, Leopold Brunner the Elder (1788-1866). In addition to the subject matter, the handling of paint in the present picture is also characteristic of Brunner the Younger's approach, particularly the use of delicate brushstrokes to evoke a sense of detail and sharpness in the scene, including in the artist's depiction of the flowers which garland the cow and her calf.
