Description

After Sir Edwin Landseer, RA, British 1802-1873- The Illicit Highland Whisky Still; oil on board, 22.8 x 30.3 cm. Provenance: Private Collection, UK. Note: The present work is a copy after Landseer's original painting, which is held in the Wellington Collection at Apsley House [WM.1532-1948]. The scene shows a distiller surrounded by the tools of his trade, while a woman talks to a seated huntsman, presumably a customer, to the left of the scene, and two young children, presumably those of the distiller, stand to the right, shyly observing him.
