Circle of Thomas Sidney Cooper, RA, British 1803-1902- Cattle and sheep resting in a landscape, with a town beyond; oil on panel, bears old label inscribed 'a sketch by / Landseer given by the / artist / to Rev A Cliffe / Rectory House / Mallow Co. Cork' attached verso, 17 x 20.9 cm. Provenance: Private Collection, UK. Note: The present work resembles the cattle scenes for which Cooper was best known (earning him the epithet Cow Cooper). Like much of Cooper's work, the scene presented here is imbued with an overall sense of tranquility and peace, emphasised by the absence of human figures.
