Description

John Frederick Herring, Jnr., British 1815-1907- The Find; and Full Cry; oils on canvas, tondos, the second signed 'J F Herring' (lower left), each 39 cm. (diameter), a pair (2). Provenance: Private Collection, UK. Note: Frederick Herring Jnr., as the oldest son of the equestrian and sporting artist Frederick Herring Snr., was very heavily influenced by his father’s approach, with both artists often working together on paintings. Herring Jnr. nevertheless, enjoyed significant success in his own right, developing his own style which was, over the course of his career, increasingly defined by a freedom and looseness of brushstrokes, evoking a sense of movement which befits the subject matter of horses racing through the landscape.
