Description
Attributed to William Marshall Craig, British c.1765-1834- Landscape with a cowherd and dairy maid taking cattle to water; watercolour on paper, 26.5 x 20 cm. Note: Craig worked principally as a watercolourist, and enjoyed the patronage of the Royal Family over the course of his lifetime, serving as Drawing Master to Princess Charlotte (1796-1817) in 1812, and as Miniature Painter to the Duke and Duchess of York in 1820. The present work is a charming example of Craig's pastoral scenes, which contrast the more dramatic historical and mythological scenes which also feature heavily in the artist's output.
