South European Provincial School, 18th century- Portrait of a lady, standing, half-length, wearing a pink and white striped dress and holding a book; oil on canvas, bears label from 'Ernest Alexander & Sons, Glasgow' inscribed 'MR BOB WILLOUGHBY / C/O THE WASHINGTON HOTEL / CURZON ST. LONDON. W.1' attached to the central stretcher bar, 72 x 62 cm. Note: The shipping label on the reverse suggests that present work was possibly owned by Bob Willoughby (1927-2009), a prominent and influential American photographer known for his shots of film stars such as Judy Garland, Frank Sinatra and Elizabeth Taylor.
