Follower of Sir Joshua Reynolds, RA, British 1723-1792- Portrait of George III as Prince of Wales, standing half-length, wearing the star of the Order of the Garter; oil on canvas, oval, 26.5 x 22.3 cm. Provenance: Private Collection. Note: The present work appears to have been inspired by Reynolds' portrait of George III (1738-1820) when Prince of Wales, now in the Royal Collection [RCIN 401034]. In the present composition George III wears the star of the Order of the Garter, to which he was appointed by his grandfather, George II (1683-1760), on 22 June 1749, at the age of 11.
