Description

Circle of Charles Deane, British 1794-1874- View of the Thames from Somerset House, with St Paul's Cathedral and Waterloo Bridge in the distance; oil on canvas, 53 x 92 cm. Note: The present painting strongly resembles Deane's romantic, expansive Thameside views, which exhibit the influence of Venetian artists, most obviously that of Canaletto (1697-1768). A strikingly similar work by Dean, depicting Waterloo Bridge and the Lambeth Waterfront from Westminster Stairs, London, is held by the Museum of London [C355], whilst another Thames view sold at Cheffins, Cambridgeshire, on 12 June 2019 (lot 204) for £10,000.
