Attributed to Friedrich Carl Gröger, German 1766-1838- Portrait of a young lady, seated half-length, wearing a blue dress with a lace collar and holding an open book; oil on canvas, 61.5 x 48.3 cm. Provenance: Property from a European Private Collection. Note: The present work exhibits the smooth, highly-finished style which is characteristic of Gröger's portraits, alongside the crisp, detailed treatment of jewellery and clothing, as in the depiction of the sitter's earrings and delicate lace collar. Indeed, the present work recalls Gröger's portrait of his daughter, Lina, also wearing an elaborate lace collar, which is now in the collection of Hamburger Kunsthalle [HK-1035].
