Attributed to Girolamo Magnani, Italian 1815-1889- Set design for 'Aida'; pencil and watercolour on paper, inscribed 'Aschieri' (lower left), 22.6 x 30.7 cm. Provenance: Anon. sale, Sotheby's, London, 29 October 1981, lot 9. Private Collection, UK. Note: The present work is strikingly similar to Magnani's set design of 'Rive del Nilo' which he created for a production of Verdi's 'Aida' in the Teatro alla Scala, Milan, in 1872, and which can be found in the Archivio Storico Ricordi in Milan [ICON000140].
