Studio of Willem Wissing, Dutch 1656-1687- Portrait of William Henry, Prince of Orange and Nassau, bust length, in feigned oval; oil on canvas, bears label on the reverse inscribed 'LADY MATHEW WILSON / 24 6 35' verso, 76.3 x 64 cm. Provenance: The collection of Lady Mathew Wilson. Until sold at Christie's South Kensington, 13 November 2003, lot 10, as 'Follower of Sir Peter Lely'. After which at Appleby Castle, Cumbria. Note: The present work bears a striking resemblance to Wissing's portrait of William III, Prince of Orange and Nassau, (1650-1702) which is now in the collection of the Holburne Museum in Bath [A10].

De Hooghe not only participated in developing the program of the festivities, but was also responsible for engraving the magnificent plates that illustrate this commemorative volume. The superb illustration consists of a portrait of William III by Pieter van Gunst from a drawing by John Brandon and 15 off-text plates engraved by Romeyn de Hooghe with captions in French and Dutch, 11 double-page and 3 full-page. Romeyn de Hooghe's engravings show the procession, the triumphal arches, the Vyverberg and the Binnenhof, and the decorations specially designed for the event, which included works of painting and sculpture and a phantasmagorical fireworks display.
