Provenance: The collection of Lady Mathew Wilson. Until sold at Christie's South Kensington, 13 November 2003, lot 10, as 'Follower of Sir Peter Lely'. After which at Appleby Castle, Cumbria. Note: The present work bears a striking resemblance to Wissing's portrait of William III, Prince of Orange and Nassau, (1650-1702) which is now in the collection of the Holburne Museum in Bath [A10].
