Studio of Willem Wissing, Dutch 1656-1687- Portrait of William Henry, Prince of Orange and Nassau, bust length, in feigned oval; oil on canvas, bears label on the reverse inscribed 'LADY MATHEW WILSON / 24 6 35' verso, 76.3 x 64 cm. Provenance: The collection of Lady Mathew Wilson. Until sold at Christie's South Kensington, 13 November 2003, lot 10, as 'Follower of Sir Peter Lely'. After which at Appleby Castle, Cumbria. Note: The present work bears a striking resemblance to Wissing's portrait of William III, Prince of Orange and Nassau, (1650-1702) which is now in the collection of the Holburne Museum in Bath [A10].
