Circle of Charles d’Agar, French 1669-1723- Portrait of a boy and his hound, the sitter portrayed half-length, wearing a dark green jacket and holding a hat under his arm; oil on canvas, 77 x 63.1 cm. Provenance: Private Collection, UK. Note: The present work, which depicts a boy with an authority and gravity which belies his young age, is highly reminiscent of d'Agar's portraits. Similar portraits include a painting attributed to d'Agar which sold at Bonhams, London, on 12 April 2022 (lot 124, £8,500), and a double portrait of Henry and John Harpur in the collection of the National Trust at Calke Abbey [290278].
