After Niccolò Cassana, Italian 1659-1713/14- Self-Portrait of the artist, bust-length, wearing a ruff; oil on board, oval, faintly inscribed 'S. Rosa' verso, 21.4 x 17.4 cm. Provenance: Private Collection, UK. Note: The present work is a copy after a painting which was purchased by the Uffizi Gallery in 1825, and was initially believed to be by Salvator Rosa (1615-1673) before being re-attributed by Marco Chiarini (1933-2015), the Director of the Galleria Palatina in Palazzo Pitti, to Cassana. Numerous copies and versions of the original exist, including one attributed to Cassana himself which was offered at Sotheby's, London, on 10 July 2008 (lot 187).
