Stefano della Bella, Italian 1610-1664- A Satyr family walking; etching on paper, tondo, 20 x 21.7 cm. Provenance: Private Collection, UK. Note: Della Bella enjoyed the patronage of Grand Duke Lorenzo de Medici (1449-1492), which enabled him to study in Rome and Paris before returning to Florence in 1650, where he continued to work for the Medici family. Della Bella was a prominent and highly prolific printmaker, producing over 1,000 prints which are notable for their inventiveness and originality. Indeed, the present work is classic example of Della Bella's fantastical and humorous scenes, depicting a family of satyrs on a leisurely stroll in a wooded landscape.
