After Lambert Sustris, Dutch 1515/20-c.1570- Venus and Cupid; oil on canvas, bears old label for 'Fritz Reimold', inscribed with the date '19.12.1963', attached to the upper stretcher bar, 59.5 x 72.3 cm. Note: Despite being born in Amsterdam and studying in Utrecht, possibly under Jan van Scorel (1495-1562) or Maerten van Heemskerck (1498-1574), Sustris's work most clearly exhibits the influence of his time spent in Venice, where he worked with Titian (c.1488/90-1576). The present work is a copy after Sustris's original 1550 painting, which is now held in the collection of the Louvre in Paris [INV 1978].
