One volume. 9.2 by 15.2 cm. Portrait-(8)-223 pages followed by 25 pages of catalog by bookseller Michel Charles LE CENE. Full contemporary calf, spine with 4 raised bands, ornate caissons, red title page, roulette on the edges. Minor rubbing on 1st board, otherwise very good condition. Interior in very good condition. Rare posthumous original edition of a major text, decorated with an intaglio portrait of Henrietta of England by Schouten. It is both an accurate picture of the court of Louis XIV and an account of the suspicious death of the young princess to whom the author was close. The author of La Princesse de CLEVES is already evident in his writing.
