DIGNITARY STATUETTE The figure is depicted standing frontally, with outstretched arms and hands on either side of the loincloth. Legs together. He wears a long loincloth with a knot on the chest. The head has now disappeared. Back post with hieroglyphic column. For a similar model, statuette of a man in basalt c. 1800 BC. 13th dynasty, Museum of Fine Art, Budapest, 51.330 (fig.1). A similar statuette sold at Christie's NY, June 5, 2014, USD 56,250 (fig.2). Carved basalt. H. 23.5 cm. Missing head and feet. Egypt, Middle Kingdom, c. 12th dynasty, c. 1840-1800 B.C. A Middle-Kingdom basalt statuette of a Nobleman. Represented standing front, with straight arms and hands places on either sides of the loincloth. Legs joined.
