A ‘CHILONG’ SOAPSTONE SEAL AND AN AGATE PENDANT, c. 1920s A ‘CHILONG’ SOAPSTONE SEAL AND AN AGATE PENDANT, c. 1920s China, late Qing Dynasty (1644-1912) to Republic period (1912-1949). Comprising a rectangular soapstone seal, the top carved with a sinuous chilong and scrollwork, one side incised ‘Wan Bai Shang Ren’, the seal face engraved as well. The soapstone with an appealing color play of maroon, orange, and creamy hues. The second an agate pendant carved in openwork with curled lotus leaves and reeds, with a finely executed frog and crab on top, cleverly utilizing the black shadings of the gray translucent stone. Condition: Good condition with some wear and few tiny nicks. Provenance: French private collection. Weight: 212 g Dimensions: Length 6 cm (the seal), 5.8 cm (the pendant)
