Cover with royal coat of arms, triple gilt frame and 4 fleur-de-lis corners, all edges gilt. Small cracks on the spines (not serious), a trace of wetness on the boards. Very rare brown spots. "First edition of this curious work describing the symptoms of a woman suffering from osteomalacia". A good copy of this unusual book, in a fine binding with the royal coat of arms.

VII-a portrait-492 pages, with two folding maps, one watercolored (complete). Full contemporary long-grained amaranth morocco, smooth spine richly decorated, boards richly decorated with romantic motifs in gold, fillet on the edges, inner lace, all edges gilt. Spine slightly faded, otherwise very fine binding. Sparse foxing mostly concentrated on the first few leaves, a few leaves slightly browned. Enriched with a handwritten ex-dono: Offered to my dear adopted daughter Clémentine Jerningham-Stafford, on the occasion of her marriage to M. le Cte de Ripert-Monclar on March 19, 1838. Donissan Mise de la Rochejaquelein. This memoir of the Vendée War was a great success, and remains one of the most important documentary sources on this civil war. Here in its most complete version, and in a superb binding.

She wears a gilt gown with floral decoration and is draped in a royal blue and red brocade sash. She stands upon a crescent moon atop a gilt wood base. Height: 22 in x width: 10 in x depth: 10 in.
