Titta Ratti, Oarsman Mid 20th century, signed Titta Ratti, brown patinated bronze, impressionistic depiction of an oarsman in a fragmentary boat on gentle waves, leaning far back and raising one arm, mounted on a multi-part marble base, the latter chipped, otherwise in age-appropriate condition, h sculpture 44 cm, l total 62 cm. Artist information: actually Battista Ratti, Italian-Swiss sculptor (1896 Milan to 1992 Malvaglia), 1909-1913 he attended the art school La Scuola per l'arte dell'orafo in Milan, then designer and engraver in the workshop of Gaetano Beretta, then at the Scuola superiore d'arte applicata a l'industria course for sculpture, drawing and engraving under Eugenio Pellini, In 1919 he was admitted to the Academia di Belle Arti in Brera, where he was trained in sculpture under Giuseppe Graziosi and Bassano Danielli and in painting under Ambrogio Alciati; he opened his own workshop in 1924, but continued his training by taking sculpture courses and travelling abroad, exhibiting at various exhibitions and winning numerous prizes.
