Paris, Paulin, 1830. 4 volumes in-8, dark blue half calf, finely decorated smooth spine, in common slipcase (period binding). First edition of this important collection, preceded by Mémoires pour servir à l'histoire de la vie et des ouvrages de Diderot by Madame de Vandeuil, his daughter. It contains the complete Lettres à Sophie Volland (with the exception of the very intimate ones, whose publication Diderot forbade), the trips to Bourbonne and Langres, the correspondence with the sculptor Falconnet, the Paradoxe sur le comédien, an interview between d'Alembert and Diderot, d'Alembert's Dream, the Skeptic's Walk. At the end: table of contents of the correspondence with Sophie Volland. A very fine copy in an elegant romantic binding. A few brown spots."
