Attribuée à Jérôme CARTELLIER (1813- ?)

Presumed portrait of goldsmith and chiseler Antoine VECHTE (1800-1868), bust, in green coat, with Legion of Honor knot in buttonhole. Oil on canvas board. Unsigned. Inscription on back identifying subject and painter. 55 x 46 cm. Large central horizontal break, stains, rubbing and small chips. Molded wood frame. Provenance : Georges HAQUETTE (1852-1906), then by descent. Antoine VECHTE (1800-1868), goldsmith and chaser, was the grandfather of Lucie SCHMALZ, Georges' second wife.
