André DERAIN (France / 1880-1954) Flowers in a white vase, 1935-1940 Oil on canvas Signed 'A derain' (lower right) 46 x 38 cm; with frame 61 x 53 cm Provenance : - Jean Laporte (1909-1980), Toulouse. - Acquired from the previous owner's family by the current owner. A certificate of authenticity from the André Derain committee will be given to the purchaser. Jean Laporte is the brother of René Laporte (1905-1954), writer, poet and journalist, winner of the Prix Interallié in 1936. As part of his publishing business - Les Cahiers Libres - René Laporte published works by renowned authors such as André Breton, Cocteau, Rainer Maria Rilke, Kessel and Giono, as well as bibliophilic editions illustrated by Foujita, Ernst and Dali. Very close to the Surrealist movement, René Laporte was committed to disseminating this new artistic vision, from both a literary and poetic and aesthetic point of view.
