Barbedienne Fondeur Paris, bronze with red-brown patina, depiction of David with his slingshot shortly before the battle with the champion of the Philistines, the harp and the bag of bread and cheese, which he was supposed to bring to his brothers, carelessly thrown to the ground, on a round stepped plinth with naturalistic top, in very good condition according to age, h 81 cm. Artist information: actually Marius Jean Antonin Mercié (1845 Toulouse - 1916 Paris), French sculptor, medallist and painter, studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris under Alexandre Falguière and François Jouffroy, won the Grand Prix de Rome in 1868 at the age of just 23, He held a professorship in drawing and sculpture at the École des Beaux-Arts and was elected a member of the Académie française in 1891; he was a Grand Officer of the Legion of Honour and President of the Société des artistes français from 1913.
