LE GRAS Simon. Procès-verbal du Sacre du roi Louis Quatorze du nom. Soissons, Hanisset, 1694; small square in-8 of [4] ff., 1 bl. f., 27 pp, contemporary old red morocco, gilt fillets framing the boards, large coat of arms in the center, ornate ribbed spine, gilt edges, modern plexiglas case. A very rare record of the coronation of Louis XIV, unknown in the Ruggieri catalog, which is nevertheless quite complete. The author was bishop of Soissons and had himself crowned Louis XIV. The aim was to defend the right of the bishops of Soissons to crown the kings of France against the ecclesiastics of Reims. A very fine copy bearing the arms of Achille III de Harlay (1639-1712), first president of the Parlement de Paris and friend of Madame de Maintenon. He was one of the most important figures of the Grand Siècle and possessed a splendid library, most of which was bequeathed to the Jesuits. Paris, 1775; in-8, contemporary binding in tiger calf, with gilded arms in the center of the boards, ornate smooth spine, red parts, red edges. Original edition remained anonymous. Interesting section on the Children of France crowned during their father's lifetime. Pleasantly bound with the coat of arms of Charles de Barbarat de Marizot, President of the Parliament of Metz from 1764 to 1771. Following the ceremonial is a short poem by Dorat (8 pp.) published in 1774, entitled Le Nouveau Règne, ode à la Nation. Very discreet restoration at the head.
