Stéphane MALLARME (1842-1898) Les poésies. Brussels. Edmond Deman. 1899. 1 volume in-8, blue half-chagrin with corners, ribbed spine, gilt head, covers and spine preserved. Binding soiled, spine faded, hinges rubbed and upper jaw of 1st board split. Illustrated with a frontispiece by Félicien Rops. Bookplate with motto: Sunt res lacrymarum. Attached is an autograph letter signed by Stéphane Mallarmé, 2 leaves in-12, folded, dated April 30, 1897, addressed to Monsieur Le Président, in which he declines an invitation to the inauguration of the statue of Rémy Belleau, as he is unwell and has had to leave Paris to rest. Trace of glue on one edge. Slight foxing.
