Description

ROBERT INDIANA (Indiana, USA, 1928 - Maine, USA, 2018). "Love Red Blue Green." Painted polystone, specimen 356/500. Attached certificate of authenticity and original box. Measurements: 15 x 15 cm. The LOVE series is a collection of sculptures created by American artist Robert Indiana. The first LOVE sculpture was created in 1970, but its origin dates back to six years earlier, when the Museum of Modern Art in New York commissioned Indiana to create a Christmas card. For these holiday prints, Indiana produced the famous design we know to this day: the letters L, O, V and E in a serif type and stacked on top of each other. The original LOVE sculpture-now housed at the Indianapolis Museum of Art-was an instant hit when it was unveiled in 1970. Over the course of several decades, Indiana would create more than 50 editions of the sculpture for locations around the world, from New York City and Philadelphia to Singapore and Taipei. Robert Indiana was an American costume designer, painter, sculptor and stamp designer associated with the Pop Art movement. Indiana has also worked designing sets and costumes for theatrical works. His works employ symbols and words from everyday life painted in the vivid colors of pop art, and depict American culture and life in an ironic manner, often containing political criticisms of American society. Certificate of authenticity and original box enclosed.
