Ever since the Spanish Civil War, Picasso's artistic practice has been constantly linked to his political commitment against fascism. While his painting Guernica is the most notorious manifestation of this, other, more modest works testify to his left-wing political anchorage: in particular, his regular contributions to the French Communist press, which continued well after the war. This print was made for the front page of Le Patriote on February 14, 1961, to mark the Nice Carnival. 65.3 x 52 cm. Condition A (trace of old mounting on the edge of the sheet on verso).
