Italian school circa 1800 after the antique Reduction of the Equestrian Monument to Marcus Aurelius Bronze with silver patina Total height 27.5 cm, including marble base height 10 cm Reference work : -Rome, 161-180 A.D., Equestrian statue of Marcus Aurelius, bronze, H. 424, Capitoline Museums, inv. MC3247. This is a reduction of the famous equestrian statue in Rome's Piazza del Campidoglio. The work has been known and documented since the 10th century, and is one of the most important statues of antiquity to have survived unburied. The monument has been widely copied and studied since the 15th century, and particularly since the end of the 18th century. Artists, amateurs and collectors on the Grand Tour sought reproductions of the Marcus Aurelius in bronze, plaster, cameos and intaglios.
