Our version is a late 19th-century copy, marketed at the time by the National Gallery of Denmark (Statens Museum for Kunst), where the original appears. Biography: Christoffer Wilhelm Eckersberg was the most important painter of the Danish Golden Age. A young pupil of David, he remained faithful to Neoclassicism.
