A FINE FLEMISH ALLEGORICAL TAPESTRY LATE 16TH / EARLY 17TH CENTURY woven in wool and silks, the field depicting figures in a rural scene, in traditional costume preparing a feast with baskets of bread and ewers of wine, merchants approaching with three camels, a wooded and mountainous landscape beyond with soldiers on the march, enclosed by borders of urns issuing flowers, cherubs and further figures, with a 'Chevalier Conservation, Paris', label attached to the reverse 301 x 263cm Areas of top and lower guard stripes probably re-woven. Corrosion to the silk in some areas otherwise in fair/good condition. Now with modern backing and rings for suspension.
