ÉCOLE FRANÇAISE DE LA FIN DU XVIIIe SIÈCLE Presumed portrait of Charles d'Éon de Beaumont, known as the Chevalier d'Éon (1728-1810), wearing the insignia of the Order of Saint-Louis. Oval miniature on ivory, mounted as a corsage brooch, preserved under glass. Gold mounting. Good condition, accident to reverse glass. Gross weight: 10 g. Sight: H.: 3.5 cm - W.: 2.8 cm. Frame: H.: 4 cm - W.: 3.7 cm. Reference: Our miniature is to be compared with the portrait by the English artist Thomas Stewart (1766-1801), dated 1792, recently acquired by the National Portrait Gallery in London, which in turn is a reproduction of the portrait by Jean-Laurent Mosnier (1743-1808), representing the Chevalier d'Éon, in the Lowther Castle collections.
