Leonid Bekchtein was a graphic painter, who graduated in 1924 from the Kiev Institute of Plastic Arts, and was a member of the Poltava Association of Artists of Revolutionary Russia from 1926, the Association of Artists of Red Ukraine from 1927 to 1930, and the Association of Proletarian Artists of Ukraine from 1930 to 1932.
