Modern long-grained green half-maroquin, with cold decoration, Romantic style. Binding in perfect condition, very rare foxing. First edition in French (E.O. in English: 1822). N.U.C.: -NSE 26148- locates only one copy (ICU). 2. [DELOLME (Jean-Louis)]: Constitution of England. New edition, revised and corrected by the author. Amsterdam, E. Van Harrevelt, 1774. One volume. 12 by 19 cm. (4)-250-(2) pages. Contemporary fawn half-basane, smooth spine, black title page. Binding in good condition, small wetness in upper margin. 2nd edition, partly original (E.O.: 1771). "This work, though forgotten, played an important role in the history of political ideas: it disseminated knowledge of England's political system and thus knotted together a certain liberal model that had great influence until the second half of the 19th century." Volume covers with highly original diamond decoration. Condition of copy mediocre, lack at top of volume 3, two volumes with stains on covers, corners worn. Interior also mediocre, light spotting in the margins of part of 2 volumes, old ownership stamps on the title pages, some foxing. Frontispiece by Schley, and 5 hors-texte plates, forgeries of the Essen plates. Counterfeit of the original edition, in an original binding.
